The term congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) encompasses a group of autosomal recessive disorders, each of which involves a deficiency of an enzyme involved in the synthesis of cortisol, [1, 2] aldosterone, or both.

Deficiency of hydroxylase, resulting from mutations or deletions of CYP21A, is the most common form of CAH, accounting for more than 90% of cases. Surgery is a medical specialty that uses operative manual and instrumental techniques on a person to investigate or treat a pathological condition such as a disease or injury, to help improve bodily function or appearance or to repair unwanted ruptured areas.

The act of performing surgery may be called a surgical procedure, operation, or simply "surgery". In primary pigmented micronodular adrenal disease, children or young adults develop small cortisol-producing tumors of the adrenal glands.

A goitre can be associated with a thyroid that is not functioning properly. Worldwide, over 90% of goitre cases are caused by iodine deficiency. The term is from the Latin gutturia, meaning throat. Most goitres are of a benign nature.

Signs and symptoms. A goitre can present as a palpable or visible. In the pituitary gland, CRH stimulates the release of ACTH into the bloodstream. ACTH then acts in the cortex of the adrenal gland to induce production and secretion of glucocorticoids (Glucocort.), which enable enhanced energy metabolism under stress conditions and negatively feedback on CRH and ACTH to reduce their production and release.

Disorders of the thyroid gland are common and require extensive experience to be well managed. Our team of endocrinologist manage all aspect of thyroid disease, both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, nodular thyroid disease and thyroid cancer.

Thyroid cancer is a particular speciality of our practice. Doctors may recommend drug therapy before surgery to improve signs and symptoms and minimize surgical risk. Medical therapy may not completely improve all of the symptoms of excess cortisol.

Medications to control excessive production of cortisol at the adrenal gland include ketoconazole, mitotane (Lysodren) and metyrapone (Metopirone). A phaeochromocytoma is a rare tumour that secretes catecholamines. It is derived from chromaffin cells, usually in the adrenal medulla; however, occasionally extra-adrenal phaeochromocytomas or paragangliomas occur [].Many - but not all - authors define phaeochromocytoma as coming from the adrenal medulla and if the tumour is similar but located elsewhere, it is called a.
